LAUREN ASHMAN TO BRING EXPERTISE TO THE PICTOR GROUP
Highly respected athletics administrator Lauren Ashman will join The PICTOR Group to provide expertise in rules compliance, academic services and internal operations, Founder and CEO Cary Groth announced.
Ashman brings over 20 years of experience at the NCAA Division I level to The PICTOR Group, most recently serving as Deputy Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Memphis, a member of the American Athletic Conference. She will also provide executive coaching services as part of her role.
"I would like to thank Cary and The PICTOR Group’s leadership team for this special opportunity,” Ashman said. “Embarking on this new journey presents an incredible opportunity to leverage my expertise in transforming challenges into strategic solutions. With a renewed emphasis on compliance assessments through the NCAA’s attestation requirements, I am eager to enhance The PICTOR Group’s reach and drive impactful results for our clients.”
In her role at Memphis, Ashman had primary oversight of compliance, student-athlete support services, sports medicine, sports performance and student-athlete well-being while leading Memphis through the Independent Accountability Resolution Process. She served as sport administrator for several programs, led head coaching searches and was a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. She also launched 901Women, an initiative that generated philanthropic support for women’s athletics and leadership and development opportunities for female student-athletes, coaches and staff through internal and external partnerships. The initiative generated over $1.5 million for women’s athletics through Summer 2024. Additionally, Ashman represented Memphis Athletics on the President’s Search Committee and the University-wide Strategic Plan Planning Team.
Ashman played an active role in the American Athletic Conference governance structure, serving a two-year term as chair of the Senior Woman Administrators and representing that governance group in the league’s search for a new commissioner in 2024. She also participated as a member of the Athletic Directors’ Executive Committee, served on the Championships Subcommittee and acted as liaison to the women’s basketball and women’s soccer coaches.
Prior to Memphis, Ashman was Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Bowling Green State University where she was heavily engaged in the Mid-American Conference and served as Chair of the MAC Infractions Group. She also held leadership positions at Ohio University, Hofstra University and Coastal Carolina University where she began her administrative career in intercollegiate athletics.
Nationally, Ashman served on the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee, chairing the group in the final year of her term. She also participated as a member of the LEAD1 Infractions Working Group in 2021 which resulted in sweeping changes to the infractions process that were fully supported by the membership and NCAA Division I leadership.
Ashman earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management from Slippery Rock University. She was inducted into the Slippery Rock Sport Management Hall of Fame in 2022 as a member of its inaugural class and is also a past recipient of the school’s Sport Management Alumnus of the Year award.
“Lauren is well-respected by both the NCAA and her peers, bringing a wealth of practical experience in compliance and student-athlete services to our firm. Her expertise will undoubtedly offer our clients outstanding guidance and support,” Groth said.
