Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree

Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree has over 30 years of leadership experience in higher education and athletics. In 2008, she made history as the first female Athletics Director at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), where she became one of the longest-tenured leaders in the university’s history. In recognition of her contributions, NCCU established The Ingrid Wicker McCree Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund. Dr. McCree is a member of four Halls of Fame as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator, including the C.E. Jordan High School and George Washington University Athletics Halls of Fame.
Dr. McCree successfully guided NCCU’s transition to NCAA Division I FCS status and led the development of two strategic plans, including the Era of Excellence (2020-2025). Her leadership extends beyond NCCU, with service on numerous boards, such as the Durham Sports Commission, North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, and the NCAA Division I Council.
A John C. Maxwell Certified team member, Dr. McCree holds certifications in DEIB, Workplace Conflict Resolution, and 360 Leadership Assessment facilitation. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from George Washington University, a master’s in recreation resources administration, and a doctorate in higher education administration from North Carolina State University.
